First, we practiced your self-introduction. You did a great job talking about your job as a hypnotherapist（さいみんりょうほうし saimin ryouhoushi） in Japanese!
We also practiced using 「すきです (suki desu)」 to talk about things you like. For example:
わたしはぶどうがすきです。
Watashi wa budou ga suki desu.
I like martial arts.
わたしはブラックトーチがすきです。
Watashi wa Burakku Toochi ga suki desu.
I like Black Torch.
Thank you for introducing me to Black Torch! I had never heard of it before, but it sounds interesting!
After that, we practiced 「これ (kore)」「それ (sore)」「あれ (are)」.
これはペンです。
Kore wa pen desu.
This is a pen.
それはペンです。
Sore wa pen desu.
That is a pen.
あれはペンです。
Are wa pen desu.
That is a pen over there.
We also learned many new nouns today, including:

In today’s lesson, we made travel plans. The sentence pattern was “place + purpose,” using “go to a place in order to do something.”
For example:
* Iceland e kazan o mini ikimasu.
(I’m going to Iceland in order to see the volcano.)
* Iceland e kazan o mini ikimashou.
(Let’s go to Iceland to see the volcano.)
You created several sentences, and your questions helped the conversation expand. It was excellent.
Before the conversation practice, we checked vocabulary—starting with verbs. In Japanese, adding masu to a verb makes it polite. Without masu, the verb becomes the dictionary form, which is a casual form.
Dictionary-form verbs end with “u.”
We will study dictionary forms in the next stage, so today we only introduced the idea.
In the next lesson, we will continue with conversation practice.
After that, let’s study Lesson 5, the te-form. This is the most important part of the textbook. It may seem difficult, but don’t worry—we will learn it together.

First, we reviewed the differences between 「これ (kore)」「それ (sore)」「あれ (are)」. You were able to use them with many different nouns without making mistakes. You did a great job!
Today’s new expressions were 「この (kono)」「その (sono)」「あの (ano)」. We learned that 「この (kono)」「その (sono)」「あの (ano)」 are used together with a noun. For example:
このペンはわたしのです。
Kono pen wa watashi no desu.
This pen is mine.
そのかばんはわたしのです。
Sono kaban wa watashi no desu.
That bag is mine.
あのくるまはわたしのです。
Ano kuruma wa watashi no desu.
That car over there is mine.
When I asked you to make your own sentence meaning “This is mine,” you showed me your adorable cat and said:
このねこはわたしのです。
Kono neko wa watashi no desu.
This cat is mine.
That was the best Japanese sentence I heard today! 🐱
I would have introduced my cat too if he had been nearby, but he is very independent and unpredictable, so I never know where he is!
You were able to practice 「この (kono)」「その (sono)」「あの (ano)」 with many different nouns today. You’re doing a great job remembering what we’ve studied and using it in new sentences.

We covered slides 3 to 8 of MDJ L8. We reviewed the six ます-form patterns, then paired each one with its casual counterpart —
辞書形, ない形, and た形. ませんでした ⇔ なかった was not covered this time.
We also introduced the kanji for the days of the week:
月・火・水・木・金・土・日.
You had a good grasp of how the conjugation patterns work. The next step is speed. English support will be reduced gradually from here.
