1. Asking the Time: Polite vs. Casual (しらない ひとに vs ともだちに)Notice how Japanese shifts between formal (です/ます) and casual (だ/plain) depending on your relationship with the listener.
🔹 Speaking to a Stranger (しらない ひとに) - Formal / Polite

・あけましておめでとうございます。 (Akemashite omedetou gozaimasu.) = Happy New Year!
・Culture Note: Said on January 1st (1がつ 1にち / ついたち).
・ごそつぎょう おめでとうございます。 (Gosotsugyou omedetou gozaimasu.) = Congratulations on your graduation! (Casual: そつぎょう おめでとう！)
